Asia Pacific Network (APN)

APN is an intergovernmental network of 22 countries working towards an Asia-Pacific region that is successfully addressing the challenges of global change and sustainability.

APN has sponsored a grant of US$ 57,610, for the project named the Value chain mapping and capacity building of Pakistani government stakeholders to implement Basel Convention’s amendments to enhance control of the transboundary movements of plastic waste, CBA2021-12SY-Syed. This project proposes to enhance the Pakistani government’s capacity to implement Basel Amendments. This project will use a transdisciplinary approach to understand the socio-economic and political factors that lead to the low implementation of Basel Amendments. It will conduct a value chain analysis, social network analysis, and policy coherence study to identify these factors. The project will use these research outputs to conduct workshops with government stakeholders and help them to develop a policy action plan that can be used to implement the Basel Amendments.

Comsats University, Islamabad

COMSATS University, Islamabad (CUI) is a public sector university of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The university always brings and supports innovations in research and development to meet the demands of fastly changing technological environment and social requirements via the latest and novel projects. Aligned with its values, the project of Value chain mapping and capacity building of Pakistani government stakeholders to implement Basel Convention’s amendments to enhance control of the transboundary movements of plastic waste has also been supported by the COMSATS University, Islamabad. The university aims to offer all the organizational support required for this project through its academic and research resources.

The mission of the Engro Foundation is to enhance the quality of lives of communities and maintain sustainability in the environment and systems and enhance the capacity of communities and governmental and non-governmental agencies. Engro Polymer and Chemicals Limited is a leading private sector initiative that contributes to the circular economy for plastics in Pakistan and collaborates with several public, private, academic and non-formal stakeholders in creating a sustainable future. For the project of Value chain mapping and capacity building of Pakistani government stakeholders to implement Basel Convention’s amendments to enhance control of the transboundary movements of plastic waste, Engro foundation and Engro Polymers and Chemicals Limited have partly sponsored the grant for the smooth process of carrying research and field activities.

Karachi School of Business & Leadership

Karachi School of Business & Leadership (KSBL) is another academic partner for the project of Value chain mapping and capacity building of Pakistani government stakeholders to implement Basel Convention’s amendments to enhance control of the transboundary movements of plastic waste. KSBL focuses on updated research on the circular economy in Pakistan and provides research and evidence-based input for public policy. For this project, KSBL will bring stakeholders from various sectors of plastics manufacturing, recycling, import and export and related sectors for research and development, and will bring actionable agenda in the form of training, seminars and workshops for relevant stakeholders.
